Micky Dolenz started performing at the youthful age of 10, in the show “Circus Boy” under the stage name Mickey Braddock. This aired from 1956 to 1958. He then went on to create his own band in the 60s with the name ‘Micky and the one nighters’, during this time he had already started writing his own songs and cover songs as well.
One of his favourite songs included Chuck and Berries “Johnny B. Coode” which he had sung at the audition for the Monkees, which he managed to secure the position. They started recording in 1965 and instantly the group became best friends, pulling pranks on each other so much that they had to be brought in individually to record.
Micky Dolenz had also started recording his own songs in 1971 by playing the acoustic guitar, Drums and using the Moog like a keyboard. His first song was titled “Easy on you”. He performed in the musical “The Point!” alongside Davy Jones, their comedic chemistry was so strong that the show was considered so good that is was revived once in 1978 and was planned to be revived again in 1979.
Micky was also well known for his voice overs for many Saturday morning cartoon series including “The Scooby doo show”, “These are the days” and many more. He was widely loved for the voices he portrayed.
In May of 2021 he released a solo album “Dolanz Sings Nesmith” featuring songs that were written and produced by Cristian Nesmith including songs like “Carlisle Wheeling” and “Different Drums” which both have over 19 thousand listeners on Spotify and 16 thousand views on YouTube. In 2023 Micky Dolenz released an E.P. of R.E.M.
