He’s one of America’s most enduring singer-songwriters. His songs have been recorded by artists from every genre, from Madonna’s chart-topping recording of “American Pie” to George Michael’s version of “The Grave”, recorded in protest of the Iraq War, to Elvis Presley’s recording of “And I Love You So”. He is a musical luminary and a trailblazer, transcending generations and influencing new and upcoming artists.

The American Troubadour, Don McLean, has it all: endurance, passion, and heart. After being rejected by no less than 72 record labels, he recorded his debut album, “Tapestry”, in 1969, but it was his second studio album, “American Pie”, that catapulted him into international stardom in 1971 with two extraordinary singles from the album, “American Pie” and “Vincent”. As tragic as the backstory behind “American Pie” is, with the untimely deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) in a plane crash, the magnificent and legendary song became a cultural phenomenon, going straight to the hearts of the audience every time Don McLean plays it. The song was voted number 5 in the 365 Songs of the Century compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America. It is undeniable: the lyrics "Bye-bye, Miss American Pie” will forever resound as a staple in music.

If there was any doubt, let it be squashed; the proof is always in the accolades. King of the Trail Don McLean has racked in a multitude of awards during his extensive career, such as an honorary doctorate from Iona College, an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the induction of “American Pie” into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as inductions into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Music City Walk of Fame, among many others.

The hugely popular NYCB Theatre at Westbury, nicknamed the Westbury Music Fair, boasts 3,000 seats in a unique theatre-in-the-round style, giving the audience a rare up-close and personal experience with the American Troubadour himself! Whether you choose to sit right up front or on the top row in the mezzanine, every single seat in the NYCB Theatre at Westbury is a good seat!
